Fred felt himself pausing as he ran. The pain in his legs from sudden exertion was slowing him. His heart pounded in his chest. His midriff bulged out of its clothy coating, as if there was a second person struggling to break free. And in a way, perhaps there was.
Was he Sir Fred, or was he Sir Toby? The question hung in his mind. He had memories of both, certainly. But which personality was dominant?
It was a difficult question for him to answer, particularly given the dangerous nature of the situation. The bear swiped its claws down, catching Fred- or Toby- across the back.
It was not a deep wounds, but it was enough to bring him to his senses.
