"I want to live the life I already had!" wailed Fred, unable to control her blubbering. A parental spark flared within Belboz, and he took the sobbing girl into his arms. "There, there," he said softly, and some otherworldly quality of his voice began to calm her but slightly. "I'm sorry, my child, but that is out of the cards. But anything else, anything befitting of a young girl, and I will be at your side to assimilate you. Think about it--you could be so much. A noble's daughter, perhaps? Grow up to be a lady, with title? Work at the castle? Or you could study at one of the great schools, or be raised by a sea captain and grow up sailing the world's oceans. Or perhaps you'd prefer a simple peasant's life, this time around? I'd make sure you lived in comfort and safety." Something in Fred resisted, but something else melted into his words. A world of possibilities? Perhaps this could be a good thing... She was still crying though, and Belboz waved a hand gently over her head, catching her as she promptly fell asleep and went limp. He carried her to his guest bedroom and tucked her in, hoping she'd be calmer when she awoke. Many hours later, Fred climbed slowly and contentedly to consciousness. Upon completion of the process, she beheld an unfamiliar room, and alarm flared at her core. She began to recall what had happened to her, and what Belboz had proposed. It was so hard to think though... She did not fully realize that she now had the mind of a mere six-year-old. She slid out of bed, her bare feet meeting the stony floor, and crept to the door. Smelling something wonderful, she followed her nose and found a table set for two, holding the most delightful display of fresh fruit and sweets for breakfast. Belboz stood nearby, and said, "Hannah, you're up. Did you sleep well?" She crinkled her nose at the name, but also rather liked it despite herself. Finding herself famished, she approached the table, climbing into one of the chairs, and took a croissant, which she began to eat greedily. Belboz took a seat beside her and said, "So, Hannah, have you given my offer any more thought?" She swallowed, feeling a dim confusion, and stared at the crumbs on her plate for a long time before she said,
