But another man sitting at the bar, a young man with long dark hair, asked, "Hey. This guy bothering you?" Gemma hesitated, but she nodded, and before she even knew it, the man was sporting a huge black eye and scurrying out the door. She watched in amazement, and the younger man sat down right in front of her. "Getting hitched to Old Man Hubbard, huh?" he asked. She released a shaky laugh. "I-I guess so." He extended a hand. "I'm Neil." She put her hand in his and said "Gemma," but trailed off as he lightly kissed the back of her hand. This was so strange and so wrong. And now she had a date to get married in less than a week that she was going to be magically compelled to uphold. How could she get out of this? "Are you new here?" Neil asked, and she nodded. "Well, a word to the wise? Don't entertain guys like that. Don't give 'em the time of day." If only she'd had that command before. She smiled sweetly. "Thanks, that's good advice." Her tone abruptly shifted as she realized she had less than a week to get this spell lifted or she had to get married again, and she asked, "Do you know of any nearby magic users?"
