The Waiting Game

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 116125

Mara didn't particularly like it, but she had to agree. It was likely to be safer up here anyway, and unlikely that Freda would wander off.

"Freda, honey," she told the cow, "you stay here, all right? We won't be gone long."

Freda looked at her in alarm. "But..." she trailed off. She wasn't sure which was more frightening: going down there with them, or being left in the dark woods alone. "Don't go," she tried.

Mara shook her head. "We have to, Freda, for the good of the land. You know that." She hugged the cow. "But we'll be back before you know it."

So Freda watched in trepidation as they descended into the darkness, and soon enough the light of the torch had vanished from her sight. She stood waiting anxiously for several long minutes, hating every second. How had she once done dangerous things like this on at least a weekly basis? She hated questing [113951]. How had she allowed herself to be roped back into it? She missed Vycynth and his enclosure.

The minutes marched on agonizingly slowly. Finally,

  1. Freda heard movement from the woods behind her.
  2. something began to emerge from the crypt - but it wasn't Mara or Gabriel.
  3. Freda realized that Mara and Gabriel had been gone for an inordinate amount of time.
  4. her friends came back under the moonlight, holding a small pot and looking none worse for the wear.
