Willa regarded the witch in fear, but being a loner all her life, speaking was not her way, so she said nothing. Her muscles seized up when the witch began to wave her hands slowly over her, muttering something in an ancient language. Willa felt control over her limbs leave her, and she could not even scream--though she likely wouldn't have anyway.

Presently

  1. a film covered her mind, and her eyes opened, now dull. She saw her mistress before her, and stayed still, awaiting a command.
  2. a mist swirled into her mind and spread into all its corners. She opened her eyes and saw her mistress before her, and memories came to her of a life where her greatest joy was to follow this witch's orders.
  3. she felt as if her body was no longer her own, and when the witch said, "Open your eyes," her eyes opened on their own.
