Sir Rick Joins Francine in the Modern World

"What?" snapped Francine, her temper beginning to run short, but the man merely smiled, stood up, and walked out the door. She tried to forget about him and go back to enjoying the best day of her life, but the encounter left her very much out of sorts.
Through that same door there entered shortly afterwards a different man, twiddling his bowtie nervously. He appeared as he always had, but his knightly garb had been switched out for a modern suit. A strange man had approached Sir Ricardo O'Farrell on the grounds of the castle of King Embron and Queen Jastina of Allaria and told him that a strange fate had befallen his comrade Sir Frederigo, and that he was to be given a chance to save him. Of course, being the loyal friend he was, Rick accepted, but upon hearing of the situation, he was flabbergasted by the strangeness of it. Fred had been changed into a woman called Francine and placed in a different world. She remembered nothing of her true life, and was an utterly different person. Rick had been told that he would have the opportunity to be placed into her life and try to get her to remember her true name. He would have exactly one year to do it; if he succeeded, Francine's memories of Fred would be restored and she would be allowed to come with Rick back to Allaria. If he failed, they would both be trapped in this world, and Rick himself would slowly lose his memories of his true self and home as well. There was just one more catch: the man had magicked Rick such that he could never say anything to Francine remotely related to their true identity or home. It was a more daunting task than any he'd ever faced, but for his dear friend, he had to try. He was horrified to find that the woman Fred had become was now wed, but he knew he couldn't rush into things. He would just observe the festivities and learn what he could about how best to insinuate himself into Francine's life. Francine and her new husband went out of town for two weeks after the nuptials, which at least gave Rick some time to sell his gold coins, find a place to live near Francine, and begin to acclimatize to this world. His first real opportunity to speak to Francine came...
