Waiting for the war to end

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 115550

Arthema estimated, with some help, that Sheba was around six years old. She wasn't sure how long lions lived, but it was the case that, if she treated the creature well, she should be able to get at least a decade out of her. The war for Aqualaria shouldn't take that long, and she liked to imagine herself ruling the land from the throne of the fallen Queen Helia, petting Sheba.

Years passed. Sheba paced frequently, trying to remember what she could about her life as Fred, but finding that thinking about it just made her sad. But she couldn't very well stop, always returning. She mostly lived contentedly, wanting little from anyone except food and comfort and space to run around and play. She couldn't really understand what anyone said to her, except if they talked very slowly and simply, or used words they'd taught her, like her name and simple commands. She was often pampered with new toys, professional grooming jobs, and rich, flavorful meat. She could only imagine how much better life would be once her mistress won this war... if she did win, that was. Eventually, after about four years,

  1. her collar's magic began to fade.
  2. Sheba's sadness over her lost life as Fred compounded with her mounting worry for her mistress's safety led Arthema to become worried in turn, and she called in a healer to examine her pet.
  3. the war came to a single decisive battle. Arthema began to train Sheba the day before, intending to have her fight alongside her, knowing that she would likely be killed by spiteful Aqualarians if the Amazons lost anyway.
