Belboz was discouraged when none of the fish responded to his attempts to communicate, but knew it didn't lessen the possibility that they had been human. Transformation magic could affect people's minds, and in fact more often than not it did.

He took to talking to Fred every time he fed the fish, even if he wasn't 100% sure he was there. Frequently he apologized for bringing the knight into this.

It was about six months into his servitude when...

  1. Marcelina noticed how sad he was, and made an effort to find out what was wrong so she could help.
  2. Marcelina convinced her father to free him.
  3. Belboz decided to try removing each fish from the water, to see if that might reverse the spell.
