Morgaine knew the girl had not always been what she was now, but she had no problem with it - why she'd done similar things in the past for weaker reasons. The girl was a delight, and she was happy to accept when Belboz proposed to her.

Hannah was the flower girl at the wedding, and a great many sorcerers were in attendance. Morgaine's wedding dress and veil floated around her almost ethereally, and Hannah all but squealed with delight at how beautiful her new mommy was.

Morgaine moved in with them after the wedding and started raising Hannah much more actively. Every time Hannah didn't readily obey either of her parents, they would wave a hand and make her want to. They never struggled with parenting because they never bothered to. Hannah was always happy because they made her be.

Hannah was almost eight when

  1. both her parents were killed when the dragon ravaged the area. Only she survived.
  2. her parents sent her off to finishing school.
  3. Hannah was playing outside and was kidnapped by a passing band of brigands.
