Stacy was stunned. Not so much by the idea that she might be a lesbian -
after all,
that seemed quite acceptable these days and, the way things were going, in
a year or two would probably be
compulsory - but by the thought that this woman could be her
inamorata.
She was at least twenty years older than Stacey, overweight, and judging
by the purple dress
and her eye make-up she was totally lacking in taste and subtlety.
She hurriedly let go of the woman's shoulders. She didn't want her to get the wrong idea. The woman noticed that Stacy seemed to be doing an impersonation of a goldfish: she was opening and closing her mouth, unable to say anything. "Honey, what's the matter?" she asked. Finally regaining the power of speech, Stacy said:
