And instantly, Lilith was happy beyond reason. Because being happy in itself was the fulfillment of the king's command, and that only served to make her more happy. Downright joyous. A wide grin blossomed across her face, and she bounced slightly on her feet, awaiting more orders.

"Follow Mendrick," said the king. "He will show you your quarters."

Lilith spoke for the first time to ask, "What shall I do once I am there, my king?"

"Ah, well, there will be some clothes for you to try on. Do that, and then..." He thought for a moment, and shrugged. "And then practice your dancing. Practice for hours if you must. Prepare for me a show that will blow me away."

Lilith nodded enthusiastically, and watched Mendrick expectantly. Sure enough, he led her to a room, casting sad glances back at her every once in a while but not speaking. Eventually they stopped at a door, which he opened for her.

The jester clothes were garish and she personally didn't like them much, but she sure liked trying them on. Afterwards, she began to practice her dancing.

  1. As Fred, she had actually been quite a good dancer, so it wasn't too long before she was itching for some more orders.
  2. She didn't know the first thing about dancing, so she practiced until the moon was high, there were blisters upon her feet and it hurt to took a step.
