Beams, shields, action!

"Enemy ship targetted," said Zen. "Plasma cannon firing."

A beam of energy streamed towards the dot on the screen which exploded in a flash of white light.

"Enemy ship has been destroyed," said Zen in a detached voice as if nothing of interest had happened. "Enemy missile incoming."

"Do something!" shouted Stacy.

"Zen, evasive action," shouted Astra.

"Confirmed," said Zen.

There was a low rumble and then silence.

"Defense field was successfully deployed," said Zen. "Energy reserves are at 95%."

"Zen, how long can we maintain the defense field?" asked Stacy.

Zen was silent.

"Zen, respond," said Astra.

"Only responses from Commander Astra are registered," said Zen.

"I want you to add Stacy as a registered commander," said Astra.

"Confirmed," said Zen. "Voice print for commander Stacy has been registered."

"Okay Zen," asked Stacy, "then tell me, how long can we maintain the defense field?"

"At current levels, defense field with drain remaining energy reserves in approximately 13.5 minutes."

"Zen, shut off defense field," said Stacy.

"Confirmed."

"So now what?" asked Stacy turning to Astra.

"We take out that pirate base," said Astra. "Zen, bring us into firing range of the enemy planetoid."

"Confirmed."

"You can't just kill them!" said Stacy.

"Zen," said Astra, "how many weapon banks are required to destroy the planetoid?"

"Firing two weapon banks will destroy planetoid."

Astra turned back to Stacy. "Yes, I can."

"No," said Stacy. "You don't understand. We've got to at least talk to them. Give them a chance. We don't even know for sure that these are the same people raiding Carl's people."

Astra looked away and stroked her chin, lost in thought.

1. Astra told Zen to open fire
2. Astra told Zen to open communication channels
3. Astra told Zen to take the ship into teleport range
