Hannah relaxed, as she realised that it was just a look-out sneezing that she had heard. She carried on to where she could see that the horses were tethered. Their saddles and bridles had been removed for the night; if she was to ride one, it would have to be bare-back. One of the horses whinnied as she approached, and she froze again, but the look-outs ignored it. She assumed that the horses must whinny often, and that the men didn't think anything of it.
She untied one of the horses, selecting it because she thought that it was the most handsome. It must have been very well-trained, as it did not move but waited patiently for her to mount. Only then did she realise that she had a major problem. She was a lot shorter than any of the knights, and the top of the horse's back was on a level with her head. How was she to get up there? None of the other horses were any smaller, so they would not be any easier. At least she had had the forethought to wear pants and a blouse under her cloak, rather than a dress, so if she managed to mount she wouldn't have to ride side-saddle. (Not that she had a saddle.). She retethered the horse, and went in search of something that she could bring over to stand on.
