Anna didn't want to admit to James that she was amnesiac, but she wanted to find out what her suddenly remembering things called automobiles meant. That recollection didn't seem to fit in with anything else that she remembered. "Do you recognise the word 'automobile'?" she asked.
"I've never heard the word before. What's it mean?" "An automobile is a four-wheeled vehicle like a cart or a coach. But instead of being drawn by horses or mules, it's self-propelled." "By magic, you mean? It sounds like the sort of thing that a sufficiently powerful wizard might be able to do." "Maybe," she said, though she didn't really believe that magic was the vehicle's means of locomotion. "Why did you ask if I knew the word?" "Oh, no reason."
