Preparing to Leave

She was inside a room with a small table and a couple of chairs, as well as the laundry basket that she had been brought here in. It might have once been used by workers on their break, as it had a water supply, a sink, a microwave and a fridge (which was empty). Though the open door she could see outside what looked like it might be a disused warehouse. The place was lit by fluorescent tubes. When she searched, there was no sign of any of her own clothes or the bathrobe; presumably they were still back at the hotel. However her shoulder bag was on the table. The men must not have wanted to leave it behind in case the police might have been able to use its contents to help trace her, she guessed.

What was she going to do for clothes? She would much prefer not to have to wear anything that the men had been wearing, but she didn't appear to have any alternative. She certainly wasn't going to put on any of their underwear, though. She settled on a pair of trousers that fortunately had a belt. By setting the belt to its tightest, she was able to keep them from falling down. They were a bit long in the leg, but luckily not so long that they were likely to trip her up. With the pants she put on a shirt, choosing the one that luckily didn't have any bloodstains on it. Both pairs of shoes were too big for her. She solved that problem by reluctantly putting on both men's pairs of socks one over the other, after which the shoes at least weren't going to fall off her feet.

She took the gun, the knife and the phone - having deleted the photos - and put them all in her bag. Then she was ready to leave.

1. But before she could do so, the police turned up.
2. She left, intent on finding out more about the Dark Blade.
