The Never Ending Quest - Episode 112246

Mertix paused, wondering if she was pulling his leg, but she looked perfectly happy and sincere. Before he could ask a clarifying question, she said, "Tell me, is this the castle of the prince I am meant to marry?"

He paused. "Um... No, I don't think so. Uh, Fred, you said? That's... a rather masculine name for a lovely woman such as yourself. Is it short for something?"

"Frederigo," she replied, still smiling. "Sir Frederigo D'Honaire."

Mertix blinked. And blinked again. "Sir? That title is typically bestowed only upon people of the male variety."

"Oh, well you see, I used to be of that variety. A knight. I was changed by a necromancer called Belboz. I'm not sure how I came to be here." She laughed. "Isn't that funny?"

Her mirth seemed perfectly genuine, and it was frankly extremely off-putting. "You are under further enchantments?"

"I am! I'm meant to be a man. Oh, but I can't really complain. Apparently something has gone wrong in his plan, and I shall not have to marry a strange prince after all!" She giggled. "Well, provided Belboz doesn't track me down! I wonder where he's gone? And how long it's been?"

Mertix had to voice his thoughts: "If you'll pardon my saying, erm, Fred, you seem... inordinately happy, particularly considering your situation."

She paused, apparently turning this over in her mind. "I suppose I am." At this she laughed out loud. "Isn't that marvelous?"

"All right. Well. Clearly I shall need to sort this out. Where did you say you were from originally?"

"I didn't say, but I was a knight of Allaria! On a quest to slay the dragon, mind you! My king trusted me ever so much. He is such a good king." She smiled, hugging herself, apparently lost in memories.

Mertix knew he would have to look deep into this, but something would have to be done with the girl while he did. After informing the king that the restoration to the flesh had at least been successful, he

  1. introduced her to the ladies-in-waiting and left them chatting.
  2. sent her to help the maids clean.
  3. let her explore the gardens and courtyard.
  4. let her explore the armory.
  5. showed her to a guest bedroom and asked her not to leave.
  6. left her in his own room (connected to the potions room), asking her not to leave, or touch anything.
  7. gave her a sleeping potion.
