"I don't swing that way," you tell the annoying clerk. You had intended it originally as an effective way to dampen his ardour, but as soon as you say it you wonder whether it might in fact be true.

"Oh," he says, looking disappointed. Recovering, he puts on his "professional" face and says: "Well, is there any particular comic book that you're interested in?"

  1. "Not really," you say.
  2. "Do you have any of Alan Moore's graphic novels?" You don't know where your surprising knowledge of the works of Alan Moore comes from.
  3. Then the clerk adds: "Duck!" "Huh?" you say. You are even more startled when he dives for the floor, pulling you down with him. A moment later a bullet flies over your head. Why would someone be shooting at you? Or were they shooting at the clerk?
