"Wait a minute," said Stacy when the Fourth Doctor had finished reading the
note aloud. "If you've got your TARDIS -- er, TARDISes -- what's to stop
us all from just leaving this place?" "Oh, I doubt it'd be that simple," said the Eighth Doctor gravely. "He's right," said Betty-2. "Scott has Authorial powers here. That means he can pretty much bend reality to his will." "If you can call this reality," Betty-1 murmured. "Anyway," the red-haired Betty continued, "I seriously doubt that he'll just let us leave. And, besides, what about Melissa? We can't just abandon her." "So," mused the Third Doctor, "it looks like we have little choice but to play along with this... game. At least for the moment." He paused for a moment, looking over the assembled group. "Right. Well, time to choose up teams, I suppose. It seems each of us" -- he indicated his two later regenerations -- "has a corresponding version of the Master, so it seems reasonable that we pair up that way." He beamed a smile at the Delgado Master. "It seems you're stuck with me a while longer, old chap." The Master merely glared at him. "Can I come with you, too?" asked Stacy immediately, wanting to at least stick with the Doctor she was familiar with. "Of course, my dear." The Fourth Doctor clapped an arm around the shoulders of Betty-2, who was nearest and began propelling her towards a TARDIS, saying "All right, then, come on, let's not dawdle!" The Eighth Doctor gave the remaining Betty a charming smile. "Well, it looks like we're a team, then!" he said cheerfully. She smiled nervously back at him. All three "teams" piled into a TARDIS, each of the Masters grumbling as they did so.
