Orbeus sensed that he was telling the truth, and after hours of poring over the book himself while Jarlath returned to the party to keep Miranda out of trouble, he had to conclude that it was not currently within their collected power to restore Sir Fred. So, he decided that his wisest course of action would be to

  1. have Jarlath turn Miranda into something closer to the knight Sir Fred had been.
  2. have Jarlath turn Miranda into something inanimate, to keep her safe till she could be restored.
  3. bring Miranda to live with him, to keep her safe till she could be restored.
  4. tell Miranda the truth. The last thing she needed right now was to be lied to or changed again.
