"Thank you," Lord Fred said. "But I feel terrible about killing Belboz. I shouldn't have lost my temper like that."
"You were very severely provoked, and besides you weren't really yourself at the time, in a very literal sense. I'll just return and tell the King that I couldn't find Belboz."
"Why did the King send you to fetch him?" Fred asked.
-
"It occurred to the King that a magic user might have a better chance of defeating the dragon than a knight would. So he was going to ask Belboz if he would be willing to help."
-
"Since you left, the King's daughter, Princess Exotica, has fallen gravely ill, and the healers can do nothing. The King thought that Belboz might be able to cure her using magic."
-
They were interrupted by a voice from behind them saying: "I should like to know that too." Spinning round, who should they see but Belboz! It's not so easy to kill a powerful necromancer.
-
"He wouldn't tell me. It must be something very hush-hush."
