Civilization

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 109713

Fred almost reconsidered. This would be a huge inconvenience. What could she possibly do to defeat the dragon if she could never travel more than a day's journey from this spot?

But sign she did; there was nothing else for it. It wasn't the best solution, but it was a step in the right direction.

This transformation was just as immediate and agonizing as the first one, but after a panicked swim to the surface and over an hour of treading water, Fred dragged himself onto the beach, and was able to relish the feel of the sand between his toes.

Light was dying, and he was very tired, but he began to move along the shoreline, as fast as he could. He had happened upon no trace of civilization by the time the last shreds of sunlight faded, and he found himself very suddenly female, legless, and fully immersed in water.

She spent a few minutes gasping in shock while Narissa waited for her to quiet. As soon as she was able to speak, she asked, "Where's the nearest human town?"

Narissa responded,

  1. "There's a fishing town less than a half hour walk along the beach."
  2. "About eight miles to the east, inside the nearby forest."
  3. "I'm afraid there is no trace of human civilization for a good fifty miles."
  4. "There's one on a large island that I suppose isn't too far from here, but you would need a boat to hope to reach it as a human."
  5. "How should I know?"
