Four more bowls of stew spread out over a few days later, Fred had no intention of ever leaving this hut. It was nice here, there was good food, and she could rest. As payment for Wenda's kindness, she was willing to do just about anything the crone asked of her.

Inside a few weeks of near complete inactivity and three huge meals every day, Fred had gained several pounds and lost any extra muscle she may have had. She did nothing to take care of herself, but it wasn't like Wenda was overfeeding her. She evened out at what might be described as "pleasantly plump."

After about two months of life like this, Wenda was ready to try her first new potion since the mute's arrival. Its purpose was to, for a limited amount of time,

  1. make the drinker completely obedient and loyal to one person.
  2. make it impossible for the drinker to sleep.
  3. make the drinker dream while awake.
  4. cause hair to grow thickly all over the drinker's body.
  5. transform the drinker into gold.
