The two magic users are happy they have been successful, of course. But the first thought that springs into Carac's mind is that the girl once so much resembled an ogress already—basically, she was so ugly—that some spiteful magic user insulted her humanity by taking it away. In reality, the woman that this ogress was—before it was a dog—is so far gone that Carac, who is experienced and wise, cannot even pull her back out of oblivion. The spell he prepared with Rowan's help knew it was supposed to make the ogress human, but that was it. It changed her body only to the point that that was true—and her mind, as well. Her memories are so jumbled and hazy they will do more harm than good as she tries to work out her life. And she's certainly not the sharpest, either. The woman soon begins to stir. It is at this point that Carac removes her from the cage and Rowan rushes off to begin preparing a hot meal. When she finally opens her eyes, Carac asks if she knows where she is. She blinks, looking around. She takes a long time to answer. Finally, she rasps, showcasing her set of dirty, uneven teeth, "No." Her voice is unnaturally deep. Carac graciously pretends not to notice. He asks if she knows her name, how old she is, where she comes from, what happened to her, what she's supposed to look like. All her replies are decidedly unhelpful. All she says aside from negative answers is "I'm hungry." Like always, Rowan cooked enough to feed a small village, but the woman doesn't seem to have any plans to stop eating. The two mages silently agree to cut her some slack, but they are also silently worried that her time as an ogress affected her more than it should have, and wonder what might be done about it since they don't have a reference to do comparisons. All they discuss, though, is what they should call her. She doesn't seem to have much of an opinion. In the end, they decide on Henrietta.
Now all there is to decide is what to do with the newly christened Henrietta.
