Of course the young magician (whose name, it might be helpful to note, is Rowan) has to find directions to the nearby marketplace from someone else before he can go back to the cabin where he lives with his mentor, but the whole time he is on cloud nine, feeling immensely proud of his first successful transformation spell.
Once he arrives home, and once the ogress is restored, caged, and magically sedated, the older mage (whose name is Carac) examines the she-beast thoughtfully—at first just with the naked eye, but then with a series of tests, tools, and minor spells. Eventually his apprentice's constant blabbering becomes too much, and he sends him out to make use of himself by collecting herbs.
When Rowan returns, Carac is sitting at his desk, reading. He looks up to meet his apprentice's eyes and says,

"You are right, there is definitely something different about this one. But its aura is so knotted and complex that I fear it may be impossible to tell exactly how so."
