It wasn't her vocal tract that changed—her brain did. Human language and fairy language were about as similar as an oak tree and a gauntlet. She forgot how to use the former. She stopped thinking in the former. Since she couldn't think with the latter, it became difficult to think at all.

Her emotions were still as strong as ever, though. She felt frustration, outrage, humiliation, and misery at regular intervals on a daily basis. She had just lost any ability to articulate these feelings. Not that there was anyone around who would be able to understand her anyway.

At least, not until...

  1. the colony of fairies seemed to grow bored with her and allowed the size spell to wear off after she'd been with them for an entire year.
  2. the colony was wiped out by happenstance when a troop of magicians with auras disagreeable with fairy magic passed through the woods. This was three years later.
  3. she woke up in Belboz's home after being with the fairies for five years.
