She sagged in blank, unexpected joy. "Truly?" "Yes. I guess I'm not as cruel as you thought. Though maybe you are more so, seeing as you are, for all intents and purposes, allowing Hannah to die." "Don't try that. Hannah was never real." Belboz shrugged. "Perhaps not." And he waved his hand. Immediately Hannah's body changed. Her chest flattened, her shoulders broadened, her hair shrank back into her head, her muscles bulged, and she put on a good eight or ten inches. With another wave, Belboz replaced the now ill-fitting dress with knightly armor. Before him stood Fred--finally back, one hundred percent. The knight reeled with all the changes, not to mention the weight of the armor. So many questions flashed through his mind in the space of a few seconds. Was his body in the same condition as it had been the last time he'd been inside it? Had his muscles weakened? Would his mind be affected? Any side effects at all? What had been going on in the world during his fourteen year absence? Hannah and Henry had not kept the best track of the news. "There now," said Belboz. "You may continue your silly quest to slay the dragon, as it still terrorizes the kingdom--fourteen years is a mere blink in the life of a dragon." "You don't care if I do?" Fred asked suspiciously, his head still spinning. "If I did, do you think I would have restored your true form? A lot changes in nearly a decade and a half. Not that you'd understand." "No need to get nasty." "Indeed not, far from it. Since I'm such a saint, I'll even get you out of here before the men of the house return and believe you have done something to their beloved Hannah." As if on cue, voices could be heard in the distant woods. Belboz placed a hand on Fred's shoulder, and the knight found himself alone...
