The Never Ending Quest - Episode 10837

Fred stepped back cautiously, trying not to slip on the slick grey rock.
But gravity is a harsh mistress. Fred's left foot slid out from under him,
and his right foot quickly followed it! Oh, great, thought Fred as
he slipped into the abyss. The wind rushed past his ears, and he soon left
his stomach far behind. Suddenly, his belt tightened painfully about his
midsection, and his descent halted! Fred had forgotten that one end of his
trusty Acme Adventurer's Rope was tied around his belt, and the other end
was tied around the metal ring on the chain! Seizing his second chance at
life, our hero grasped the rope and tried to pull himself up. Ten minutes
later, he gave up, wheezing for breath. If only he hadn't had all those
holiday sweets last week! Now, he could swing back and forth until he
reached the rock wall, and then climb up from there. On the other hand,
from the sound of it, he was now only a few feet above the underground
river at the bottom of the abyss. So, rather than risk slipping in his
ascent and falling to his death, Fred added untying the rope and dropping
into the river to his list of options. Fred hung there, revolving slowly,
considering his next move.
