Belboz had realized, as he watched Winthrop grow, that he would not be around forever. Of course, there was still plenty of time, but better to start early on creating his own supply of slaves (that he wouldn't have to kidnap and enchant, anyway) so that he could work out any kinks should the two not take a liking to each other.
