The Faerie Queen and Belboz were not on good terms. He knew that she had a soft spot for lost children, particularly girls. He also knew that she would be able to detect if there was something in Hannah which was not childish--which was why Fred had had to become her, both body and mind. He further knew that nobody was allowed into her realm without her permission, and that nobody left without some small parting gift from her. And that was the ingredient he needed--something, anything, of the Faerie Queen's. "She's very beautiful and very kind," he continued. Though she doesn't like me much, he thought, a bit bitterly. But if Hannah didn't even know his name, there was little to worry about. "I think you'll like her." Hannah nodded. "Okay!" On second thought, Belboz realized, maybe it wasn't a good idea to tell Hannah what was coming. The Faerie Queen would wonder why a seemingly lost child knew she was right at the doorstep of her hidden realm. So he laid a hand on her forehead, at once erasing her memory of the last few minutes--really the only non-fabricated memories she had, but she would make new ones in time--and sending her to a beautiful field of pale orange flowers. Hannah reeled a bit and blinked in confusion, but on seeing the pretty flowers that surrounded her, she squealed in delight and reached down to pick one. Immediately she found herself in a different place...
