Winthrop, who had grown into a quiet young man with corded muscles and plenty of magical know-how, was awakened from his sleep at around 1am. He sat bolt upright on his cot, and as he listened he heard above him the sound of many angry voices and footsteps, furniture being overturned, and fire crackling. The tunnels seemed to be filled with a mob of villagers. They had not yet reached the lower level of the caves.

Winthrop...

  1. stayed in his room, hiding under his cot, praying that they would not find him.
  2. came up to try and stop them. He knew he was no match for so many people, but he also had a guess as to what Belboz would do to him if he didn't try something.
  3. decided to use this opportunity to try and slip away. He had wanted an escape from this life for many many years.
