To Vaeren's Castle

Matthias had to admit that the feeling of being tranformed was strange. He was himself, and yet not himself. And it was especially strange considering that he was now a rabbit. He couldn't wait until the week was over.

Matthias was snapped out of his thoughts as the four approached the gate of Vaeren's castle. The castle towered over them. They had reached a drawbridge, which was currently up. The moat between them and the castle was an ugly and nauseating green, and was full of hideous creatures. There was a hideous gargoyle made of obsidian next to them.

"How do we get in?" said Matthias.

"Oh, just ask me," said the gargoyle, startling all of them. "I'm Vaeren's gatekeeper. What's your business?"

"We," said Belinda, "are on a mission from the Dragon for trade negotiations with Vaeren. We picked up these two scum along the way, and decided to hand them over to Vaeren, as he was closer to here than the Dragon." Matthias had to admit he was impressed. Belinda was doing a much better job as a warrior rabbit than he was. She seemed to have a born talent for acting, and pulled off just the right militaristic manner for it.

Then, Carola seemed disconcerted for a moment. Matthias felt an impulse to ask if she was alright, but restrained it, as he had to keep up his disguise. Belinda also stood on silently, and Matthias guessed that it must be even harder for her, to stand by and watch her sister in discomfort.

It was Jarlath who asked her if she was alright. She responded that she had just been disoriented. Matthias guessed that she had had a prophetic inspiration. If that was the case, she certainly had good sense, not talking about it in front of the gargoyle

Meanwhile, the gargoyle was deliberating. He said....

1. "Alright, you can come through."
2. "You'll have to show me proof that you're really working for Minestus."
3. "You're lying. The dragon already sent an expedition here today. It isn't likely that he would send two."
