Lord Frederigo D'Honaire, now reborn and changed as the Traveller, conjured
the clothes of a wizard and walked to the Human Gate. The Staff of Fyrus
had given him innate detalied knowledge of the culture of the inhabitants of
Varga. Varga was the capital city of the distant land of Tetrilonia, a name
Frederigo the Traveller had heard in strange legends and traveller's tales
told in taverns, but had never expected to see it in person himself. He had
known that the land of Tetrilonia was a realm divided, at war between the
humans and the mysterious Dakarr. The Dakarr were a strange, secretive
people, who never showed their faces in front of humans. They were tall and
wore cloaks with strange designs on them. No one had actually seen the face
of a Dakarr, save the Intendant of Varga, although many voyagers telling
stories in bars and taverns had claimed to. Some said that the faces of the
Dakarr were shiningly beautiful, while others had claimed that they were so
hideous that to look at them would be death. The Humans had fought a war with the Dakarr, although history does not record who arrived in Tetrilonia first. They had since come to an uneasy peace. They no longer fought, and the land of Tetrilonia was one country in name, but it was divided between Human and Dakarr. There were separate Human and Dakar cities, and only one city contained both, the capital city of Varga. Varga was a great and large city. "Var: was the Dakarr word for "city," and "ga" was a superlative suffix, so the name of the city would translate as "Cityest," in a language such as Dakarrn where superlatives could be applied to nouns. And the name fit it well, for Varga was the greatest of cities, a shining jewel in all of both the Human and Dakarr kingdoms. It was a city where much trade and interaction from people of all kingdoms was conducted. It was a city where Human and Dakarr interacted, albiet uneasily. Frederigo wondered why he had been sent here. Had he been sent here to stop a petty crime, he wondered, or to stop some greater evil? He could even have been sent to stop another war between Human and Dakarr. He hoped that he would be done soon, so he could return to his quest and defeat Minestus. Frederigo the Traveller had chosen the clothes of a wizard-in-training and a member of the human culture of Tetrilonia. All Tetrilonian Humans had three names, a name assigned to them at birth, a name that they would use when they became an adult, and a hidden, secret name that embodied the essence of who they were. After finishing their training in whatever carreer they had chosen, they underwent an initiation ceremony to choose their public name and their truename. Frederigo approached the gate. The guard was a surly human in his thirties. "Name?" said the guard. "I have come to the Temple of Kareth to answer that question," answered Frederigo D'Honaire. "My birthname is Kiral vi'Toris." "Very well," said the guard. "You may enter, Kiral vi'Toris."
