Before Lilith even knows it, she's in an enormous flowing white wedding dress, and being led up the aisle. She can't say "I do," but apparently it's not necessary since Belboz has already communicated her willingness. And so, without any action on her part, she finds herself married. "Don't worry, my sweet," her new husband, Jasper, tells her. "I don't mind that you can't speak. We will get to know each other without words." Lilith was outraged at the injustice of it, but there was nothing she could do. She was tiny and helpless and literally had no voice of her own. But thus began her life as queen. She refused to actually live as this man's wife, of course, but he actually didn't seem to mind. "Oh, you prefer a spiritual marriage?" he asked. "I'm okay with that. Maybe we can adopt!" And so, within a few short months they had adopted two toddlers, and Lilith was a mother. But most of the child-rearing was done by Jasper, and Lilith's ladies-in-waiting. Sometimes Lilith tried to leave the castle grounds. But the palace guards would not let her - likely under orders from Belboz.
