The short cloaked figure rested on a stool and Fred approached the broken
down Gek cart that had been converted into a stall. The figure removed
it's hood and revealed the wide eyes and pug green face of a Yu, survivors
of the Great Fire of Banson Forest. Somehow Fred was familiar with their
plight, felt it suddenly told in his mind's voice, with their lives
destroyed and the living Yu scattered in bunches they were dying. The
people who'd worshipped the Orb above all else and nature seemed to be
squeezing them out, preferring the fleshy pink and brown humanoids and the
strength of their skin which would not blister or dry with exposure to
sunlight like the Yu. The Forest in Banson was the last place known to
have any success growing and regenerating crops of Imbrul Oaks which stood
up to 200 ft meshing and twisting together to form a canopy in the
branches and providing blankets of shade for entire colonies. The air
smelled old and thick under the yellow tarp.
"Hmm, A Traveller." The voice was gargled and ancient.
"Who, who are you?"
"The Gigo sells. You will buy."
"How did you know who I am?"
"The Gigo sells." He looked up at Fred, "you will buy?"
Fred willed the staff to appear and in the moment of it's arrival, the
second in which the blue wire of light cracked out of his right eye,
curled down his arm and erupted lengthwise into his hand blazing in a
white flame that did not harm the wielder.
"You will speak now. You will tell me what you know."
"This your first day. The light is hurting. Please. The Gigo knows. That
why you here."
"HERE. Here for what, Yu?"
"The light first. The Gigo yes but the light first."
The process reversed itself and it was as if the staff had never appeared,
nor the blue charge, or the white fire, and the blue wire retreated just
behind his eye.
The green head and large eyes re-emerged from the cloak and in his small
hands rests a dagger.
