"I can," he says, "but it comes at a price. You must agree to do something for me in the future." "Anything," Diana cries, and they shake hands. Instantly, she is rooted to the spot. She begins to grow, taller and taller. Her fingers stretch out to unimaginable lengths, growths protrude from her sides, and leaves begin to sprout at the end of them all. Her skin turns greyish and rough to the touch, and sap runs down her body like sweat. Slowly her senses fade away; the sounds of the forest, the softness of the wind, the smell of the sap. Then her eyes close. The transformation was long and unpleasant, but at the end, she is a tree, like she wanted to be. And she stays like that, for twenty long years. Our story picks up again when...
