Diana snaps back into full awareness, and, realizing that the sylphs have gone, wonders in fear how long she has been here. Brunhild's body is completely familiar, which she realizes after she begins moving, and which makes her nervous. Following a series of sets of directions from all the people she passes on the road, she finally returns to her kingdom—and it looks different. A portion of the castle has been knocked down, and there is a new tower. The village has grown as well. She arrives at the castle and says, "Kragaar," a Dwarvish word meaning "I'm here," and the word which is to magically notify Mirdox of her return. After a long wait, she is met at the castle gates by the magician himself, and he looks no different. This relieves her until she remembers that magicians do not age as quickly as humans do. "Your Majesty?" Mirdox asks skeptically after several moments. "It is I," she replies, smiling. Mirdox's expression is joyful for a moment, and grave the next. He teleports her to his chambers, and tells her, "Your Highness, you have been gone for much longer than we thought... and yet you look no older." "I was ensnared in a sylph colony's song." His face is mournful as he says, "You have been gone for half a century...
