Mirdox puts the potion in the family's breakfast, of which Diana does not partake under the pretense of feeling unwell. Connar then goes out to the garden to play with his children, but while they are outside they all succumb to mild stomachaches. The change happens so quickly that many of the statues are still laughing. Diana acts devastated by her family's transformation, and publicly commissions Mirdox to find whoever did this. Really, though, she is just relieved to be rid of the pressure for a little while. She does not blame herself one bit for that. A few days pass, which Diana spends very busily, as she is now in change of running a kingdom. The statues of her family are left in the garden, and guards are posted by them all hours of the day, just in case. After three weeks of freedom...
