Fred Proves His Clumsiness

"Yes, Your Highness. I'm sorry about that. I'm afraid I've always been a bit clumsy."

"In that case I suppose that I was lucky that you didn't cut off one of my hands when you severed my chains! Of course I'm only joking. In freeing me you have more than made up for your lack of ability on the dance floor. And please call me Astra. This isn't the place for formality."

"Thank you, Astra. I..." He got no further, since at that moment he tripped on the uneven floor of the tunnel, and flung out his arm to try to steady himself.

For the second time in a few minutes, a hand closed over Astra's breast. As Fred dropped his sword from his other hand, and it fell to the floor with a clang, Astra found herself looking down at a small terrier who could pass as Velus's twin. She sighed. "Sorry about that. The dragon put a curse on me."

Like Velus's, Fred's clothes had vanished, but Astra felt a bit happier when she had picked up his sword. Somehow she didn't feel quite so naked with a weapon in her hand.

"Well, I suppose that we had better try to find our way out of here," she said. "Come on, Fred. Come on, Velus."

1. The three find their way out of the caves.
