The Honky Tonk Museum

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 102275

The Honky Tonk Museum was located in Atlanta. Dragon Con was about a fifteen-minute walk away. In order to please the anime fans as well as the Trekies, the museum translated its exhibits into both Klingon and Japanese.

This was also the first weekend of college football season, and that night, about fifteen minutes away, Alabama and Virginia Tech were going to play first game.

As Mishi was working on setting up the exhibits, four people walked into the museum.

"Man, Joe Bob, Atlanta is screwed up. There are a ton of freaks marching around in Star Wars, Star Trek, and Star everything costumes. Those two chicks over there are dressed up like vampires. Black nail polish, black lipstick, weird dresses. At least I think that they're chicks. In Atlanta it is hard to tell the difference."

"Hush, Kyle. It is something called Dragon Con. These people like to dress up. It probably isn't doing no one no harm. Just leave 'em alone, and they'll leave us alone."

"Oh my Gawd, Lisa, look at those rednecks. How long before we can leave? They are probably going to come here and say stupid things about us being vampires. We are Goths and not vampires. Damned Stephanie Meyer screwed it all up."

"Arwen, it is eighty-five degrees and raining again. At least it is nice and air-conditioned in here. And the museum is interesting."

"It's boring. It's country! Just like those two guys that wearing the freaky clothes. We don't belong here."

"Broaden your horizons. Those two are Alabama fans. The crimson-and-red houndstooth shirt and slacks are a bit over-the-top, but crimson and white are the school colors. And a famous coach of theirs wore a houndstooth hat. Think of it like a coat-of-arms."

"Explain the gray felt hat with googly eyes and an elephant's trunk that the other guy is wearing, then."

"OK, that's weird. But he might be a perfectly nice guy. Don't judge a book by its cover. Anyway, come over here. This is a working jukebox that plays 45s. You put a quarter in, and you can see the arm take a record and put it on the turntable. That would be kind of neat. But the really neat thing is that they have some special 45s just for Dragon Con. Some are in Japanese, and there is even one in Klingon!

"Oh, that's cool. I wonder what the one in Klingon sounds like?"

"Let's find out!

The Klingon record turned out to be a translation of

  1. "Sweet Home Alabama."
  2. "Monty Python's Galaxy Song."
  3. "We Will Rock You." The translation to Klingon had improved the listening experience.
