The Never Ending Quest - Episode 10160

Princess Astra of Aqualaria felt a strange tingling as the ceremony continued. She felt memories pouring into her head, memories that she had never had before in her life, and yet they felt completely natural to her. She remembered...

She remembered being freed by Lord Frederigo D'Honaire, going to Doctor Vincent's tower, and being sent to a strange place by a miscast spell, just as she had in her own reality. But, in the other reality, instead of walking into the grandfather clock, she had walked into a strange passage with a bizzarre sigil on it, a human's hand towards the top, and a wolf's paw towards the bottom. And that had made all the difference.

She was captured by Minestus the Dragon Mage whose apprentice she had killed there, and he infected her with lycanthropy. She had spent a short time as a wolf-woman, and then Minestus had then released her. She had then run across the impetuous young noblewoman, Andrea de Croix, and found out that she was still under a curse that would cause her to become a wolf-woman once more every full moon. She had gone on a quest to find a cure for her lycanthropy, had sought the help of Belboz the Necromancer, had met up with Frederigo again, and had faced the court of the Faerie Rath to seek out the ingredients for Belboz's cure. At the point at which her new memories had come to her, she was waiting to see wether Belboz's cure would take effect.

But as a result of a strange quirk in Myrddin's process of merging, she now had a limited understanding of the events of this new reality that her counterpart who still persisted in that universe did not have. She now knew what had happened to Andrea when she had disappeared, how she had gone to the Northern Wastes with the strange madboy Jarlath, the brother of Lord Frederigo. She now knew that Minestus was an agent of the wyrm Deltuminos, and the fact that Charles D'Honaire had discovered this had left him a broken man. She assumed the same must be true in the original Astra's reality as well, as Charles D'Honaire was a broken man in her world, too, and perhaps this was the danger that he had spoken to the original Astra of. [1491]

And Astra now knew that the alternate Frederigo D'Honaire was an agent of hell, that he had conspired to harness the power of Deltuminos for the forces of Hell. Astra was deeply shocked at this. The new part of her was shocked because she had travelled with him, had trusted him, and had seen him as a friend without ever suspecting that he had was an agent of Hell who was trying to kill her. The part of Astra that had memories from the original timeline was shocked as well, as it was hard to believe that Lord Fred (she, unlike her counterpart who had perhaps always had a sort of suspicion as to her Frederigo's true nature, had always thought of him as Fred), the Lord Fred who had saved her from the Dragon's caves, who had helped her through the Calamari Desert, who had been so honorable and kind, who she had thought of as a friend, maybe more, could ever turn to evil.

Then, the ceremony was complete. The woman who had once been Astra was reeling over what had just happened. She was now no longer the original Astra who had entered the grandfather clock, nor was she her counterpart, who still persisted in the alternate universe with her mind and memories intact. She was now someone entirely diffrent, someone who was neither and both, someone called Catherine. She had the same personality as before, as the personality of the alternate Astra had pretty much been the same as her own. But she was still someone new.

"Are you alright?" asked Myrddin.

"I'm fine, for a person who has just been turned into a different person entirely," said Catherine. "Especially if that person is a werewolf. I have a question. Can you cure me of my lycanthropy?"

Myrddin answered...

  1. "Yes."
  2. "Not yet. Your identity is too unstable."
