South of the border

"They must have put it there for the stupid people," she thought. She didn't think more about it, for at that moment she was distracted by the sight of the most wonderfully fantastic magical creature she had ever seen. She didn't know what it was, but she just had to get a closer look, even though it was on the other side of the border. And why shouldn't she? She was the Princess after all, she could do what she liked, and there weren't any guards there anyway.

As she stepped across the border, a mighty cheer rose from the kingdom behind her. It was all the jealous women who somehow instinctively realized that she was not in the kingdom any more. She was no longer the most beautiful in the kingdom, only the most beautiful out of it - and they could live with that!

"Curiouser and curiouser," the princess said to herself as she started chasing the magical creature. Soon she crossed another border, and there was another cheer. Then another, and another, for the kingdoms were small in that part of the world, and being the best in the kingdom at something often meant just being the best of ten or twenty.

When night fell, the magical creature had disappeared, and the princess had no idea where she was.

1. She found a little cottage.
2. She fell asleep where she stood.
3. She whipped out her GPS receiver.
4. She started following a trail of bread crumbs.
