From the journal of Kael the Explorer:
The Caves of Tekeli'li, the Place of No Light, lie in the Dreamlands between the Plain of Leng and the city of Thalarion ruled by the eidolon Lahi. No traveler has fathomed just how deep these caves go. There are many things that dwell there--a whole world as vast and complex as the world above. There are Ghouls, of course, in the upper layers of the caves; while unnerving to human eyes, they can generally be trusted, as they do not feed upon the living. Other, stranger beings dwell below. Some are not so different from us mortals of the surface. Others are ravening forces of destruction, driven from the upper world by the power of Nodens and other protectors of the Dream. Still others are simply too alien for us to comprehend... Jacques' eyes adjusted to the darkness, and he saw a city of rough, flat, cyclopean buildings made of grey brick. Pale people in grey robes, fairly short, who more or less looked human, milled about. Like cave fish, they had no eyes, only pale skin stretched over their eye sockets. He wondered just how he could see in this deep, lightless cave, and how far under the Earth he was. The first question answered itself soon--there was a spherical blue light floating in the air beside his left shoulder. Somehow, he had to get out of this darkness and get back home to his wife--their tenth wedding anniversary was in a week--but how? How had he gotten here and how could he get back? These pale cave-folk might have an answer--but could he trust them?
