An hour or so later, Astra smelled roasting meat and vegetables. It seemed to be coming from down the tunnel. Her stomach rumbled. In all the time that she had been chained up, as far as she could remember she hadn't once felt hungry, but the delicious aroma had changed all that and she was ravenous. She tugged at her chains, even though she knew that it was futile.

  1. Hours later she is still, once again, alone. Thankfully the smell of roasting meat and vegetables has long since vanished.
  2. What seems like only a few minutes later, she sees another flickering torch flame in the distance.
  3. But to her astonishment, when she tugs her wrists slip easily through the manacles! She sets off down the tunnel to accept the dinner invitation. I hope that I wasn't expected to dress for dinner, she thinks wryly.
