Thrown in prison by the machinations of the evil Duke Zular...Fred shook
his head. Stupid, stupid new guy. All the kids who grew up in the castle
new most of the secret passageways. [1] Fred tapped the cell wall in a certain way. It slid open just enough for Fred to suck in his stomach and slide through. It was touch. He felt his actual ribs bending but then he was in and it was much wider. Fred continued on, not needing light to know of this passage.[3] He soon came to an open area. The metallic ladder was cool under his hand. Wind whistled down from the passage leading to the grotto. [1] There was always two or three more secret passages in the castle. It was the Way Of Things. The Way was pretty damn cool.[2] [2] Nanny Weatherwax would slap him if she heard Fred use such base language to talk about The Way. [3] Fred hadn't been sure if this was the Deadly Tunnel Of Spikey Death until he had gotten a few feet inside.
