Lost in Translation

The woman (wearing an elegant black dress, but with sensible shoes) walked over straightaway. "What is it, Carl?" she said, but then noticed Siva casting her spell. "Holy shit, Carl, that's magic!"

"I know..." said Carl, grinning ear to ear. It was at this point that Siva's spell had just completed.

"You know what?" said Fred, frowning. These people did not appear hostile, but it was apparent that he and Siva had been in the pillar far longer than even he had thought.

"We don't want to hurt you," said Sylvia, smiling at Fred and Siva. "My name is Sylvia Cabrera and this is Carl Sanberg. Did you use magic just now?"

Siva whispered in Fred's ear. "We must get away from these people. The woman intends--AHHH!" for her and Fred were knocked unconscious by a small pen-like device that Sylvia had slyly deployed when greeting them.

"Was that totally necessary?" asked Carl, shaking his head. "We don't know anything about them."

"They came out of the caves, Carl!" said Sylvia, enthusiastically. She then touched a device on her ear and spoke. "HQ this is Sylvia, we have a class J event at the Allaria IV entrance. Get a containment team up here now, we need sedatives and human transport with restraints. I want the lab spun up and ready by the time I get back."

"What are you thinking?" asked Carl.

"You idiot," sighed Sylvia. "Can't you see? She was using magic, she is not human. We are dealing with an extinct creature here, and true magic, which has been lost for centuries. And that man? I think he is Lord Fred himself."

"Shit..." sighed Carl. "Wow..."

"Exactly," said Sylvia, grinning to herself and firing off some quick texts on her phone. She was sure to get another promotion out of this one, at the very least. A whirring noise behind them indicated that the transport had arrived from headquarters.

Author's Note: UAS transports are devices powered by 'Magi-Tek' which is a fusing of magic and technology that has replaced both in all known corners of the world. The whirring noise is produced by the cells on the corners of the transport that allow it to hover and travel through the air at great speed and with accuracy.

1. Fred and Siva are secured, and Sylvia goes with them back to headquarters, to the lab.
2. Carl waits until Sylvia is gone, and makes a phone call. The event has occurred, exactly as predicted.
