"On me too," said Fred. "We passed a trail going off almost at right-angles
about 15 minutes back. I suppose that we are going to have to take it, and
then hope that we can find not too long a detour round the fire." Astra agreed, and they headed back towards the other trail. Unfortunately, however, a stiff breeze was blowing the fire quickly towards them, and it started to look as if they wouldn't be able to outrun it. "Fred, I do not think we are going to be able to evade that fire." They rode as fast as they could, the pain from their sores causing them almost to faint from agony. In the end, however, they could not get away from the quickly-spreading fire. In desperation, they decided to ride through the fire, hoping it was not deep. It was a poor gamble, but all they had, for the flames were upon them! The searing pain, a deep burning, the agony as their sores burst, and then, a peaceful sensation as if they were falling. Falling down, deep into darkness.
Falena shook her head sadly. The fire had been a necessity. It would burn up much good land, but in the end hopefully the Usurper would believe Fred and Astra had perished. Regretfully, that meant she had needed to let them burn. Walking over to their singed bodies, she held a hand over each one, and hummed, letting the High Priestess channel magic through her. She was linked to both the High Sorceress and High Priestess, and they could both channel small trickles of magic through her. The damage was deep, but not un-healable. Another regret was that the healing would be imperfect (due to all the sores on their face), no doubt leading to scarring. Whispering soft words, she caused the bodies to levitate and follow her through the burnt woods to her protected camp, shielded from outside eyes. After insuring their vitals were stable, she started the channeling the healing magic. It would take some time, as the High Priestess could only get a trickle through even a magic-sensitive like Falena without alerting Reaibn. "I am sorry," she said, caressing Astra's brow. "I did it to save you, princess."
Author's Note: The horses survived! Hooray!
