It was an hour before dawn, and Belinda was well rested. Fred and Astra,
however, had found sleep a reluctant companion and so were very groggy.
They met in a hallway near the great hall. "So," said Astra and then
yawned. "What is our plan?" "I think we should go to the great hall," said Fred, "there we can meet Reaibn before breakfast and hopefully distract him from thinking about the Aqualarian situation. One person, perhaps Belinda, can move to intercept any messenger coming to inform Reaibn of the return of the villagers." A tall, dark-skinned man wearing a servant's outfit that Belinda and Astra recognized as their co-conspirator Ruag [93849] joined them suddenly, around the corner. Fred was startled, but was silenced with Astra's hand on his shoulder. "This is the man we told you about, Fred. Ruag, what is going on? What say you?" Ruag's servant clothes were spotted with blood, which he was absently wiping away at. "Things hit a snag," he said, "with my part of the plan. In any case, it isn't important if you do your job properly. Now, what is this I heard you talking about?" Belinda explained, in brief, the situation with the Allarian citizens. Ruag swore softly, shaking his head. "We have no choice but to move forward. However, you should know there will be no messenger. Reaibn will use the Eye to check the progress of the citizens' return. If you are to avoid bloodshed, you must distract him and divert his attention. It is also very important that you move up the wedding to as soon as possible." "Why?" asked Fred, and Astra nodded. "What aren't you telling us?" "I have my own part to play, and the less you know of it the better," said Ruag. "Now, I know that Reaibn has already awoken, and is in his private bath. He bathes with the Eye around his neck, regrettably, or I would have already solved our mutual problem. Go to the great hall, and intercept him. I will be back around tonight." and before they could ask him any more questions, Ruag disappeared around the corner again, quiet as a mouse. "I don't trust anyone working for Hespan," said Fred, frowning. "Though I suppose right now we have little choice." Astra and Belinda could only nod their agreement.
