Belinda felt that she had no choice but to say yes. If she said no, then
who knew what horrible things Reaibn might do to her countrymen? Besides,
without these marriages, how could the Eye of Hayzus be taken from Reaibn?
She cleared her throat, and forced up the words. "It is true," she said, "Lord Reaibn is a great man and he has shown me that the things he has done are for the best for the great kingdom of Allaria. A strong and lasting friendship between our two nations will benefit the entire world. " she stared hard at the commander, a woman that she remembered seeing at court. Taking a risk, she decided to use a key phrase. "The nightingale bides its time, but its song is more beautiful for it." There were immediately cries of "Sorcery!" and "She has been compelled!" but the commander held up a silencing hand. She then walked forward to about half the distance between herself and Reaibn and Belinda, bowing low. "Then we have reason to rejoice," she said. "We will retreat at once." "And my people?" asked Reaibn, with a raised eyebrow. "They will be returned immediately." "Make sure all of them are returned," said Reaibn, with a frown. "I will know, otherwise." "As you say," and the commander bowed again and dispatched orders to everyone to sound the retreat. "Our beloved Aqualarian friends," boomed Reaibn's voice once more. "You have made the right decision. Soon, our nations will be joined together by marriage, and a new season of prosperity will dawn for all citizens of both countries!" and then he and Belinda vanished. The commander shook her head. The code phrase that Belinda had used was one saved for emergencies, and ordered backing off due to a plan being in motion. Hopefully, she had made the right decision.
