"No. I've decided that you shall be my queen," says Alex/Fred, and grins.
The effect of that grin on an innocent child's face makes Astra somewhat
nauseous. "It is exhausting keeping this up, make your way back to the
castle or else," and then Alex collapses, dead asleep. Astra gathers Alex up in her arms and takes her to Mira, who thanks her and puts her to bed. She then makes an excuse about an emergency and leaves Mira a gold coin (she tries to give it back, but Astra won't have it). Astra then starts heading back to Caemlyn. She has no desire or intention of marrying Fred, but how can she possibly get out of this? About an hour later, a man with a cart packed with various and sundry items is going by her on the road.
