Escape?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 9335

The princess warrior was not a happy camper, she had been restrained by her hanging prison for quite some time. The cave was lighted, that was one plus - but there was nothing to look upon except dry earthen walls interspersed with large boulders. She thought back to that day when she had finally arrived at the Northern Caves.

The northern trails had led her into a green valley, from the valley floor to the heights of the Mountains grew tall pines and other trees. She left her steed and climbed up the steep face until she found what her people call the "mouse hole". It was big enough for a grizzly bear, but considering how large some dragons could get, they always deemed this particular hole to be small.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the entrance of the Dragon. "How's it hanging, toots?" it said with a wry smile.

Astra growled at the creature: "You sick little b--"

"Whoa!" said the Dragon cutting her off in mid sentence. "You wouldn't want me to cut out that sweet tongue of yours, would you? Now then, I'm off to visit with a village not too far from here, but I just wanted to see you first."

Astra just glowered at the creature. It was currently in the form of a young man, it wore a fine cloak over a smock and breaches, its boots gleamed in the light. She still wondered about the creature's true nature: a dragon pretending to be a man or a man pretending to be a dragon. Then she shook her head, it didn't matter...in the end it had to be killed.

After the Dragon had left, Astra recalled something she had been remembering for a while: the sayings of Magpie. Astra recalled this: 'a reed that bends in the current will still find its roots in the bank after the storm.' For at least three days she had rolled this in her head, and now that the DragonMage had left and would be gone for a while, she would put her teaching into practice.

Astra relaxed, she slowed her breath as she had been taught. Her limbs went limp and she flexed only the muscle in the soft of her back. Time passed and little by little her body quieted. She then began to wriggle and writhe in her chains, how odd it must have been in that lighted cave to see something that appeared more the dance of a moth than the escape of an amazon warrior. Sweat appeared through the pours of her body, her breathing was deep and controlled, the slight movements of her ankle, her wrist, her elbow began to have an effect; the cuffs of the chains seemed to be slipping, her limbs seemed almost to melt from them as warm butter on a hot muffin.

  1. Will she escape or will her efforts fail?
